Tasks

Complete the practice items contained within the link to the left.  Then, make a list of (3) reading selections you have read this year and identify their theme--not their subject.



Take one of the reading selections you chose for the above task and open that text and begin to make a list of words, phrases, or sentences that clearly illustrate the story's theme.



Make a list of (5)allusions that are commonly used in conversation like, "I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse.."  Write comment and indicate what it "alludes" to.  In my example, it alludes to The Godfather.


Complete the following sentences for (3) reading selections:  In (title of story) written by (identify the author), a (describing word) tone leads to a (describing word) mood.  For example:   In at Her Majesty's Request by Walter Dean Myers, a serious tone leads to a sad mood.


In your own words (not a dictionary definition) explain what an oxymoron is; then, list (10) examples.
